Katsura Funakoshi, a sculptor who lives in Tokyo, creates figurative sculptures carved from camphor wood that most often depict the subject from the waist up. He is represented by the Arnold Herstand Gallery in New York and represented Japan in the 1988 Venice Biennale and the 1989 Bienal de Sao Paulo.
